The Crash Scene

The famous crash scene was filmed at this location. Bella’s truck is parked in multiple parking spots during the movie, but is positioned parallel in the crash scene. Several days of filming took place at this spot. To film the crash scene, water trucks were brought in to spray the lot, making it appear slushy. To make snowy spots on the ground, they mixed the water with a thickening substance and spread it around on the ground. The van, driven out of control, was actually mounted on a rail system and could easily slide sideways toward Bella and Edward. Director Catherine Hardwick spent a lot of time in this location.
