Discover the rich history of the land where water meets rail. Learn about Kalama’s beginning right on the waterfront at the Port of Kalama’s Interpretive Center. Here, you’ll learn about the first railroad stake that put the town on the map. Stand in awe of the 1917 Northern Pacific Steam locomotive, which operated during the early years of the town. Hop over the railroad tracks and embrace the community’s history and culture through the Downtown Kalama Historic Walking Tour.

Local Historian

Chase waterfalls and wander through streams while soaking in the outdoor offerings. Kalama’s landscape lends itself to any outdoor enthusiast looking to get their heart rate up. The Kalama River Valley holds many secrets. Plan a hike up to Kalama Falls to find flowing falls crashing down the landscape, or if you’d rather see your views from the water, pack your Kayak and push down the Kalama River. If the water isn’t moving fast enough for you, the mighty Columbia will grant you a challenge.
