Trashcan Mural Project: Kalama Quilters Group

Stitching Together Community, One Quilt at a Time. What began in 2023 as a group of Kalama locals gathering to sew, chat, and share a love of quilting has grown into something truly special. With every stitch, our group has found a way to turn creativity into kindness and give back to the community we love. Together, we have created quilts for every fire truck and police car in Kalama, providing something warm and comforting when it is needed most. Our handmade quilts have also been given to hospice patients, foster children, and unhoused teens. Through quilting, we’ve discovered that something made with our own hands can bring comfort, joy, and a reminder that someone cares. For the Trashcan Mural Project, our inspiration came naturally—a barn quilt. With their bold colors, beautiful patterns, and timeless designs, barn quilts have a special way of brightening the landscape. Every time we see one displayed on the side of a barn, it brings us joy. Our painted trashcan is our way of bringing that same colorful spirit to downtown Kalama—a celebration of quilting, creativity, community, and the joy of making something beautiful together.
