Fogarty Building

Constructed around the year 1910, the Fogarty Building, commonly referred to as the “Racket Store,” served a variety of purposes throughout its existence before ultimately succumbing to a tragic fire. The ground level featured a storefront that catered to local customers, offering a range of merchandise to the community. Above this, the second floor was utilized as a hotel, where numerous rooms provided accommodations, all sharing access to an outdoor balcony that overlooked First Street. The back of the main floor was a popular gathering spot for children and teenagers, who enjoyed the soda fountain while socializing with their friends and family. Unfortunately, the once-stately building faced its demise during the catastrophic fire of 1938, which not only ravaged it but also inflicted damage on numerous neighboring properties. In the aftermath, the top floor was dismantled, leaving only the storefront operational.
