Elvis Presley Sighting
In 1962, a convoy led by the legendary Elvis Presley made its way northward from the bustling city of Los Angeles to the vibrant city of Seattle to shoot the film “It Happened at the World’s Fair.” During this journey, they made a noteworthy stop for one unforgettable night at the quaint Columbia Inn Motel in Kalama. “The King” himself, accompanied by his devoted entourage known as the Memphis Mafia, took residence in rooms 219 and 220, which formed a double suite, seeking a moment of tranquility amidst their hectic schedules. However, news of their presence spread rapidly, igniting excitement and drawing throngs of enthusiastic fans from far and wide, all eager for a fleeting glimpse of their idol. Within a mere twenty-four hours, the group indulged in a lavish meal, setting a remarkable record at the restaurant with a staggering bill of $186.40. Although the motel has since been demolished, photographs capturing that iconic night continue to adorn the walls of the nearby Columbia Inn Restaurant, complemented by commemorative plaques that pay tribute to the location that once welcomed rock ’n’ roll royalty.
